SDSE's Rockin' Summer Classic took place at the San Diego Velodrome on August 28, 2004. Indoor and outdoor skaters came out from across the regional area to compete in the sixth annual event. It was warmer this year, with temperatures in the upper 70s, sunny skies, and a moderate afternoon breeze.

The usual suspects in the Pro/Elite category showed up once again to battle it out. Scott Wolf (Mogema) successfully defended his title, but not without challenge. Curtis Magee (Dust Devils) and Brian Talley (Safe) each won an omnium event to finish second and third, respectively.

The new Masters 35+ category had the most entrants for the day. Carl Yee (SDSE) won all afternoon events to seal the victory. Steve Blair finished a strong second. Roger Olson (Bont) edged out Joe Prescott (SDSE) in points to take third place.

Points were more evenly distributed among the entrants in the other catgories. Brooke Bass won the Women's category. Tie-breaking rules were used to determine second place since Jessica Gonzalez (Verducci) and Grace Barber (American Flyers) both had 13. Jessica was awarded the placement from her faster 200m Individual Time Trial.

In the Advanced category Ramir Evarola (Tucson) secured the victory with his success in the morning Sprint Tournament. Deric Mack (American Flyers) challenged Ramir by stealing two events in the afternoon to attain second place overall. His teammate Luis Equival finished third.

The Junior 13-17 category was equally exciting as most competitors acquired points. Chad Ballard (Prescott) was the standout in this category. The fight was on for the other positions. Breanna Klinger (Cal Heat) finished second, which included a race win in the afternoon. Billy Robbins (Prescott) achieved third place in a tie-breaker over Amber Wilkinson (Dust Devils).

In the remaining categories all entrants earned points. At the end of the day, Joseph Lane (American Flyers) won the Elementary 12 & under category by edging out his brother Austin. Among the Beginners, Cameron Doss (Prescott) was victorious.

Mogema donated extra prizes for an extra 30-lap Scratch race that did not count towards the Omnium points. Up for grabs was two sets of race wheels in the endurance match that was open to all skaters. Brian Talley and Kristen Gatz were the winners.

San Diego Street Elite would like to thank its long list of sponsors this year. Mogema, Bont, North Park Award & Trophy, and Accelerade all contributed prizes. Baja Fresh provided a delicious complimentary lunch for all entrants. Henry's Marketplace provided refreshments to get the skaters through the day.

See you all next year!
